On Thursday, October 14, an oil tanker collided with a divider on Ghodbunder road in Thane, Maharashtra, leading to a massive traffic at a junction of the busy Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway on the outskirts of Thane city. The incident took place around 1.30 am.

According to latest reports, the tanker was on its way to Shilphata in Thane from Gujarat. However, there was no report of any casualty, said officials.

This caused heavy traffic congestion on both sides of the Ghodbunder Road and at the key junction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway here, an official from Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar police commissionerate control room was quoted by PTI.

Thane Municipal Corporation's regional disaster management cell (RDMC) chief Santosh Kadam said that following the accident furnace oil from the vehicle leaked on either side of the road.

After being alerted, local firemen, police and RDMC personnel rushed to the spot where they sprayed water and put sand to clear the oil and efforts were made to restore smooth traffic movement on the roads.

However, due to the oil spill, commuters faced a tough time on the key roads as the vehicular movement was affected badly.

Last month, a similar accident took place near Gaimukh octroi Naka last night led to a massive traffic jam on Ghodbunder road in Thane.
