In a significant development, it has come to light that the ongoing work of expansion of platform No. 10-11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) station in Mumbai will be completed in September.

This will benefit 24-coach Mail-Express at CSMT as it will increase the seating capacity to nearly 800 passengers for all Mail-Express.

For many years, the project of extension of the platform was stalled. Senior Railway officials from Mumbai Division and Central Railway (CR) Headquarters came together and started planning to complete this project.

In the first phase, Platform No. 10-11 will be expanded while Platform No. 12-13 will be broadened in the second phase to keep railway traffic intact.

The final works of the first phase is underway and it aims to complete the work by September. 

Two more platforms will be available after the expansion. In this year's Union Budget, a fund of INR 600 crores has been allocated for the expansion of platforms in CSMT.

Due to the platform extension infrastructure work at CSMT, the following train running pattern will be followed upto September 30, 2023. This is to be done with immediate effect.

Short termination of Up Mail /Express trains at Dadar :-

1. 12134 Mangaluru-Mumbai 

2. 12810 Howrah-Mumbai

3. 11402 Adilabad- Mumbai Nandigram Express

4. 12112 Amravati-Mumbai express

5. 22108 Latur- Mumbai Express

Official further explained that DN Mail/Express trains are not affected. Passengers are requested to bear with the Railway administration for the inconvenience caused due to this infrastructure work.

Presently mail-express of 17-18 coaches each stops at four platforms. After expansion, six-seven coaches will be added. The average seating capacity of a coach is 70. Due to this, around 840 seats will be available for passengers per round trip.
