In a welcoming news for Mumbaikars, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Monday, April 10, approved the name changes for three metro stations on lines 2A and 7.

The proposal for the name changes was under consideration and the competent authority has now given its approval, clarified a notification issued by the MMRDA.

This development came after repeated demands from commuters to change the names of some metro stations to more popular identities or at least mention them with popular names in brackets.

Now this renaming will bring a sigh relief to the citizens commuting on the newly-launched metro as it will be easier for them to identify and locate the stations.

  • Pahad Eksar Metro station, located on Metro Line 2A, has been changed to Shimpoli.
  • Valnai station, also on Metro Line 2A, has been renamed to Valnai-Meeth Chowky.
  • Pahadi Goregaon station on Metro Line 7 has been retitled to Bangur Nagar.

Commuters had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the original names of these stations, stating that they were unfamiliar and not well-known among locals. It caused confusion and inconvenience.

The authority has assured that the changes will be implemented at the earliest and updated on all relevant signage and communication channels to minimise any inconvenience to the commuters.
