The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has demanded electric buses from the Maharashtra government to improve transport services in the city. Assistant Commissioner of Transport Services Vishwanath Talekar said that 61 new electric buses will be coming soon, which will greatly benefit the people here.
Only 103 buses are plying on 32 routes in the municipal transport service. As the number of buses is less, the citizens are suffering a lot.
Therefore, auto drivers take advantage of the absence of buses and charge extra fare from passengers. Talekar said that new buses are likely to arrive by April.
Auto drivers will be hit
As the number of buses is less, the number of illegal autorickshaws are increasing here. The arrival of new buses will curb illegal rickshaws and also relieve traffic congestion. Common people are likely to benefit from this in the future.
Get relief from pollution
The introduction of electric buses in the city will reduce air pollution. Along with this, the cost of diesel and petrol will also be saved. Charging stations for buses will be made in every section and depot.
