Yet Another Accident From Railways, 2 Injured At Vithalwadi and Ulhasnagar Station

After the death of 22-year old Charmi Pasad  who fell from a crowded train in Dombivali on Monday, December 16 and succumbed from her injuries, the issue of overcrowded trains has again come to light. Yet again, two unidentified youngsters were severely injured after falling from trains at Vithalwadi and Ulhasnagar stations in the Central Railway (CR). They were rushed to hospitals in Mumbai and Kalyan respectively.

The first incident occurred on Tuesday, December 17 at 10 pm at Vithalwadi station when a young girl slipped while boarding a train which was heading towards Ambernath. Another incident took place at Wednesday, December 18 at 10 am when a youngster boarded a Ulhasnagar train which was CSMT bound.  

In this week there have been three train accidents that have come to light. After Charmi Pasad succumbed to her injuries, Dombivli's Government Railway Police (GRP) stated that similar accidents have occurred on the same stretch as many commuters travel on the footboard owing to overcrowded compartments. Even after the fast train leaves Dombivli station, the commuters on the footboard struggle to get into the compartment

Moreover, automatic door closing was proposed in 2017 which was discontinued in Central Railways after it failed in the first attempt. However, Western Railways is further planning to conduct the test for the second time. Following are the projects which are awaiting funds despite being approved: 

1. Construction of fifth and sixth railway lines between Borivli and Virar stations on WR

2. Construction of third and fourth railway lines between Kalyan and Badlapur stations on CR

3. Construction of the fourth line on CR between Kalyan and Asangaon stations

4. Construction of fifth and sixth railway lines on CR between Thane and Diva. 

Experts believe that the congestion and crowding problem can be solved once these projects are completed.
