Western Railway enforces rules; Collects ₹15.34 crores as penalty from ticketless passengers

Besides the fine collection, Western Railways took action against 200 people for the charge of harassment of other passengers during the train journey.

The Railways in order to curb down the malpractice of travelling without tickets had launched a campaign against non-ticket travellers. Following the same, Western Railways has managed to recover a hefty amount of penalty from such passengers. The officials have booked around 3.94 lakh offenders during April 2018.

There has been a total recovery of ₹15.34 crores from the non-ticket passengers. The collection saw a 26 per cent rise as compared to the collection of the previous year (April 2017). Along with this, 728 beggars and unauthorised hawkers have been detained by the transport body. Till now, 141 defaulters have been sent to jail.
