Railway Protection Force officials will be sporting spy cameras to book train bullies and stuntmen. This step has been taken to discreetly record the goings-on with an aim to produce it as an evidence in the court.  Soon, the RPF personnel special wing will receive the first batch of 14 spy cameras. Until now, the force has been using body-worn cameras which being bigger and visible, makes it difficult for the personnel to record the goings-on, without anyone's notice.

In February 2018, TV news reporter Sudhir Shukla was assaulted by a group on a Churchgate-bound train. After a heated argument, Shukla lodged a police complaint and the GRP arrested five men.

A senior officer told Times of India,

The Virar-Andheri belt in the suburban section is where most cases of train-bullying are reported. Passenger groups block the doors and don’t let people enter at subsequent stations. And, inside coaches, the bullies reserve seats for friends.”

Currently, in Maharashtra and Gujarat, the WR has 387 body-worn cameras for its personnel, of which 42 of them are used in the Mumbai division.

Sharing more information about the development, a senior RPF officer told Times Of India,

Spy cameras come in many varieties. They could be connected to a shirt button or a pen in the pocket. The objective is to use the recordings as evidence in court. The culprits wouldn’t be able to deny their actions when faced with this evidence.”
