It is unfortunate, that despite railway announcements, commuters cross railway tracks or stand near the door while travelling, which eventually leads to railway accidents and deaths in many cases. This is commonly seen at Central Railway’s most crowded station, Thane, wherein the span of four months i.e. from January 1, 2018, to May 12, 2018, a total of 112 commuters have lost their lives. This data was revealed in the report produced by Central Railway officials.

It is said that most mishaps occur when commuters fall off the trains or get knocked down while crossing tracks. In some cases, many commuters board the crowded trains and unfortunately fall off in a moving train when the train gains speed.

Along with Thane, stations like Kalyan, Borivali and Kurla have topped the list for railway mishaps. Kalyan station ranks second in the list where a total of 110 commuters have lost their lives. Third on the list is Borivali station with 107 deaths and then Kurla station with 80 deaths as per the data.

Overall, 797 commuters have died across Central, Western and Harbour line in a railway mishap.
