The Western Railway (WR) has conducted a successful trial run for the Vande Bharat sleeper train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The trial took place on Wednesday afternoon, January 15.

As per reports, the train was scheduled to leave Ahmedabad at 7:15 am and arrive at Mumbai Central Terminus at 12:40 pm. However, the train departed from Ahmedabad at 7:29 am and arrived at Mumbai Central at 1:50 pm due to unavoidable circumstances. Then, it left at 2:45 pm for down line run towards Ahmedabad.

Furthermore, the train reached a top speed of 130 km/h. This trial run will make way for the Railway Safety Commissioner (CRS) certification.

The sleeper Vande Bharat train is designed for long-distance travel. It consists of 16 coaches, including eleven AC 3-tier, four AC 2-tier, and one First AC coach. It also features 38 dedicated berths for attendants, dog boxes at both ends, and storage space for linen for overnight journeys. Special facilities have been made for visually challenged passengers.

Compared to Rajdhani trains, the Vande Bharat sleeper train offers improved speed, comfort, and safety. It can reach a top speed of 160 km/h due to its advanced acceleration and deceleration capabilities.

Passenger convenience was the priority for the design. The train includes automated entry and exit doors, bio-vacuum toilet systems with touch-free fixtures, and a shower cubicle in the First AC carriage. The coaches are connected by automatic doors for seamless movement between them. Better designs and new couplers will lead to a smoother and jerk-free journey.

Earlier this month, during trials in Rajasthan, the Vande Bharat sleeper train reached speeds of 180 km/h. The Railway Ministry is now focusing on launching the sleeper version on the Mumbai-Delhi corridor as a priority.

Currently, Western Railway operates two Vande Bharat train services from Mumbai. Additionally, Central Railway runs Vande Bharat trains from Mumbai to Shirdi and Solapur. However, all these trains are seating-based.
