While the World Photography Day is celebrated on August 19, the history of the celebration dates back to the day when daguerreotype, a photographic process was developed by Frenchmen Lois Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce back in 1837.

The daguerreotype is known as the first commercially successful photographic process (1839-1860) in the history of photography and is named after Lois Daguerre himself.

Today, in 2020, we try to celebrate World Photography Day as we try to venture out in Mumbai, metaphorically speaking, from the comfort of our homes and talk about the most Instagram-worthy places in the city.

Down below are five places that can be visited in the city, for a good click or for a simple visual treat for the eyes.

  • Gateway of India: Constructed in 1924 by George Willet to honour the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Mumbai, the listicle would not be flawless without the mention of the iconic site where a cup of tea can be enjoyed while the cool breeze of the Arabian sea fills you up.

  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST): This station is no ordinary one given that the Victorian-Gothic style of architecture encompasses the walls of the very magnificent structure designed by the British born architectural engineer Frederick William Stevens. As per some media reports, the CST happens to be the most photographed place in India after the Taj Mahal!

  • Marine Drive: Helmed as the Bollywood dream by the many, the Marine Drive is one of those places in the city which is so intrinsically Mumbai that one would not have to think twice before naming movies that were shot here. On a warm evening, you will find locals jogging, tourists chirping, and friends enjoying chaat sitting on the long walkway by the sea.

  • Colaba Causeway: One of the most fun and electrifying places in the city, the Colaba Causeway is famous for being a shopping paradise and having endless shops to choose from. The market place also ends up being a picturesque location given the endless colourful goodies that enamour the streets.

  • Bandra-Worli Sea Link: Spanning across the arc of Mumbai coastline, this is an eight-lane cable-stayed bridge in Mumbai which happens to be an architectural wonder that represents modern Mumbai in its fullest glory.
