Three vital lessons that 2020 taught us

Three vital lessons that 2020 taught us
SHARES

At the end of every year, it is ceremonial to look back at the times and process the lessons that it had to teach us. When the year is as gloomy and full of hardships as 2020, it becomes even more important to process all the lessons that it had to teach us and to step into the coming year with all the understanding and insights.

While challenges for all of us might have been different, some may have to face extremely difficult times while some of us were able to sail through, here are three lessons that I feel will be important for everyone that braved through 2020.

1) Lesson of Love

When we stepped into 2020, there was a lot of unrest all around. CAA demonstrations were occupying maximum headlines and then came the virus. It struck to what at that time seemed out of nowhere. The lockdown was harsh for a lot of people and many would not have made through these difficult times if they got no help. Keeping aside all differences, people came in to support the strays, the needy, the vegetable vendor or that kaam wali bai. Religion, caste, colour all differences were all kept aside.

Even when it came to breaking the chain of the virus, the onus lied on each one of us. Every one of us had this responsibility to break the chain. It did not matter what age we were but all that mattered was our fight against the virus. While the world is being polarised and we see the hate crimes skyrocket, the virus and this year, in general, has been talking about coming together and being there for each other.

2) Look within

The lockdown was not only hard for a lot of people as they did not know what to do with themselves. While mental health was an issue that made headlines but very few realised that this year actually told us to believe that we are enough for ourselves. 2020 isolated us so we could spend time with ourselves. It forced us to stop running, stop chasing and just focus on what is right in front of us. In most ways, I think it wanted us to look within and realise what matters the most to us.

A lot of people took this time to reconnect with people that they lost touch with, take up cooking if it was only to make their followers on social media jealous that they were able to have homemade pani puri while the others struggled to get bread. But it was also the time to pick up on old hobbies and look at the bigger picture.

3) Health is Wealth

Cliched as it may sound. 2020 once again brought to us to focus on our health. The year taught us that life is unpredictable and in seconds it can change to something we have never even thought of. In these tough times, while people waited for the miracle cure and the vaccine to kick in or the herd immunity but the bottom line was also about being fit and realising that our health is the most important thing and the onus of taking care of it lies only with us.
