Legendary actor Dilip Kumar breathed his last at 7:30 am today, July 7, in Mumbai’s PD Hinduja Hospital, Khar. He was 98.
Informing about the tragic news on social media, family friend of Dilip Kumar, Faisal Farooqui tweeted from the actor's official handle. He mentioned, "With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return. - Faisal Farooqui (sic)."

The actor is survived by his wife Saira Banu, a veteran actor herself. A couple of days ago, Saira Banu spoke to the media while her visit to the hospital and had assured that Dilip Kumar is doing well. She had also requested everyone to remember Dilip Saab in their duas and prayers.
Dilip Kumar, known to generations of film-goers as 'tragedy king', had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Hinduja Hospital, a non-COVID-19 facility, for a few days. He passed away due to prolonged illness at 7.30 am, Dr Jalil Parkar, who had been treating the actor.
Soon, wishes started pouring in for the icon. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to several Bollywood celebrities reacted to his death.
Dilip Kumar Ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends and innumerable admirers. RIP.

Dilip Kumar was hospitalised twice in June. Earlier, he had been admitted to hospital after experiencing breathlessness on June 30, Faisal had said. However, on June 6, Dilip Kumar was hospitalised after a similar complaint.
After being diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion and getting the proper treatment done, Dilip Kumar was discharged on June 11.
For his contribution to cinema, Dilip Kumar was conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest award in the artform. He also received the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award in the country.
Born Mohammed Yusuf Khan, Dilip Kumar debuted as an actor in the film Jwar Bhata (1944). In a career spanning over five decades, Kumar worked in over 65 films. He is known for roles in films such as the romantic Andaz (1949), the swashbuckling Aan (1952), the social drama Daag (1952), the dramatic Devdas (1955), the comical Azaad (1955), the epic historical Mughal-e-Azam (1960), the social dacoit crime drama Gunga Jamuna (1961), and the comedy Ram Aur Shyam (1967).
