Ajay Devgan starrer 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior' declared tax-free in Maharashtra

After Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, Maharashtra too has granted the exemption of tax on Ajay Devgn's recently released film "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior." The period drama stars Ajay Devgan in the titular role of Subedar Tanhaji Malusare.

It has been given a tax-free status till April 30 by the Maharashtra Cabinet. 

The decision to waive off GST on ticket sales for the movie came a day after Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and other leaders watched the film at a special show in Mumbai.

The movie also stars Kajol, Saif Ali Khan and Sharad Kelkar. The historic drama which is helmed by Om Raut is based on the Battle of Kondhana (Sinhagad) released on January 10 and has been holding strong at the domestic box office. The movie has been made at an approximate budget of INR 130 crore and in inching towards collecting INR 200 crore. 

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior clashed with Chhapaak that stars Deepika Padukone. With the movie Chhapaak, Deepika donned on the role of a producer as well. Her film has been granted tax exemption in some states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Puducherry where Congress is in the ruling. However, on the box office it is Tanhaji that has taken the lead.
