Ever since Vidhu Vinod Chopra announced his next film 'Shikara,' he left the audience curious as the information was revealed briefly and the only message that came along the announcement was that it was the untold story of Kashmiri Pandits and it was an ode to his mother.

After a long wait, the much-awaited trailer of the film was launch in the presence of Chopra, AR Rahman and the other members of the team, both from his production and Fox Star Studios. Shikara introduces two new actors -Aadil Khan and Sadia - who play lead characters of the film. Based on the life and story of Kashmiri Pandits, Shikara is shot in Kashmir along with refugees who spent time with the crew during the shoot.

Talking about the same, Chopra said, "It took me 11 years to make this film and I made it for my mother. It is very close to my heart. When we make a film, we believe people will realise the importance and leaves an impact. I hope this film brings the change in the life of Kashmiri Pandits. The message in the film was for 30 years back and unfortunately the message is relevant today. I believe love is the only weapon when hate is the only thing that prevails."

Sharing his thought on casting new actors, he said, "I wanted new faces to be casting. I did not want Bollywood actors as it would made the film look fake. I wanted real people and then ones from Kashmir. Indoo Sharma (casting director) spent a lot of time finding new faces. I have introduced many actors, but they are probably two of the best actors I have seen in my career. I haven't thought of commercial aspects of the film. Had I thought of that aspect, then I would have cast popular actors. I was doing it for my mother, so I wanted to keep it pure."

It was also announced that musical maestro AR Rahman has composed the theme music of the Shikara and he preformed the same at the launch event leaving audience mesmerised.

On being asked on how he came on board for this project, Rahman said, "It was in 1994 when he sent me a fax which said Vidhu Vinod Chopra wanted to work with me. I was afraid and years passed on, until one day I was on my flight and I met him. That's when I realised that he has been very kind and a generous person and I was rather surprised with this. When he told me about Shikara and the project, I immediately agreed and said I owe him one as it was time to heal."

Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and produced along with Fox Star Studios, Shikara will release on Feburary 7, 2020.
