Supermart will face competition from Alibaba-backed Big-Basket, SoftBank-backed Grofers and Amazon India and will look forward to taking on these rivals. The head of groceries at Flipkart, Manish Sharma said that grocery is a purchase where people look to save more as it is a high-frequency buy. He added that the company is planning to offer discounts on overall cart value.

The grocery venture was initially launched in Bengaluru several months ago. As per the officials, the 25-30 per cent of the overall transactions of Flipkart was from the Supermart. The company plans to expand its horizons in Hyderabad, Chennai and Delhi by the end of the year.

Despite the fact that Amazon has been investing comprehensively investing in its grocery business, Flipkart hasn’t held itself back. They stated that a large part of customers in Bengaluru were former Flipkart consumers and they had been successful in turning them to explore their grocery business.

While Flipkart has a name that can assist in the success of the grocery business, eventually the consumers’ experience will be the deciding factor.
