During summers, one thing Mumbaikars eagerly wait for are mangoes. The king of fruits is preferred by many, and comes in different sizes and varieties, but it poses a great risk to health when sprayed with fertilisers. Many mango producers, spray fertilisers to ripen the mango which in turn degrades the quality.

However, there are farmers who produce organic mangoes which are good for health. One such farmer is Rahul Muralidharan from Jalna's Ambad district, who wanted to reach out more number of people with organic mangoes, for which thought of Mumbai Dabbawala Association who are known for delivering tiffins.

Upon knowing the proposal, the association happily agreed and helped Muralidharan to deliver mangoes along with their tiffins. Along with the fruit, the association also distributed pamphlets which stated Muralidharan's contact details for further queries.

Across the world, 43.3 per cent mangoes are produced in India which is popular. The only sad part is the whole world craves for it but in India, it has no importance. We thought of providing mangoes here itself in Mumbai,” said Rahul Muralidharan, farmer.

So far, these organic mangoes have reached to 25,000 families and the association is planning to reach out one lakh families, said Subhash Talekar, spokesperson, Mumbai Dabbawala Association.
