Fuel price hike: Petrol price nears INR 105 in Mumbai, diesel at INR 96.72

This marks the 16th price rise in the auto fuel prices so far in the month of June that follows 16 hikes in May. Prices have been on the rise since May 4 after oil marketing companies (OMCs) resumed their price revisions ending an 18-day hiatus.

After a gap of one day, petrol and diesel prices were hiked again on Tuesday, June 29, touching fresh record highs across the country.

Mumbai registered the highest of the prices amongst all the metro cities followed by Bangalore. Petrol price in the financial capital has hit an all-time high of INR 104.90 a litre. This indicates an increase of 34 paise from the previous day price of INR 104.56 per litre. Meanwhile, diesel rates increased by 30 paise to retail at INR 96.72 per litre in Mumbai.

The city, on May 29, became the first metro in the country where petrol was being sold at over the INR 100-a-litre mark.

Bangalore’s petrol prices currently stand at INR 102.11 per litre and diesel is being sold at INR 94.54 for a litre.

The national capital, Delhi, is retailing at INR 98.81 a litre while diesel costs INR 89.18.

It has come to light that petrol and diesel rates are at the highest in the country in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan. Petrol comes for INR 110.04 a litre. Diesel here touched the three-figure mark earlier this month and currently is being sold at INR 102.42 per litre.

Following the recent hikes in May and June, the price of petrol has crossed the INR 100-per-litre mark in several states and union territories including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Ladakh, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Kerala.
