The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Mumbai has been increasing and the local municipality along with the state government of Maharashtra have been trying their best to contain the virus. In an attempt to control the crisis, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has increased the number in the list of containment zones.

Update as of April 29, 2020, states that a total of 1391 buildings have been sealed in Mumbai, out of which 782 have been marked in the congested areas. Here's a complete list of containment zones in Mumbai.

As of Tuesday, April 28, 2020, the number of cases in Mumbai reached 6169 and 244 deaths were observed. The count in Maharashtra is also close to the 10000-mark and this has raised concerns among the public. Strict action is being taken against those who leave homes with no specified reason.

Earlier last week, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray along with other CMs had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it is said that the lockdown may be lifted phase-wise in the state. As per reports, permission will be granted for 'Green Zones' first and there may be an extension in the lockdown for red and orange zones. PM Modi has also asked the respective state governments to ensure that red zones are first converted to orange and then to green before any further decision is made.

Reports also stated that Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope is considering extending the lockdown in some parts of the state until May 18, 2020, as the number of cases has only increased with time.

Additional healthcare centres and facilities are being arranged in Mumbai thereby making sure necessary services are offered when in need. Places like NSCI Dome, Jio Gardens, Hotels, Hospitals, Schools etc. are being changed to quarantine centres for treatment.

Certain hospitals in Mumbai have also received permission to perform plasma therapy on critically ill patients, and this is to understand if the treatment is successful in this case of infection. However, doctors and healthcare professionals have been advised not to perform this without permission, as this is not a guaranteed cure to COVID-19 infection.
