As of April 1, 2020, 14 new cases were tested positive in Mumbai and one in Buldhana, taking the total count in Maharashtra to 335. The city of Mumbai saw a spike in the number of cases yesterday with 52 new positive cases, and BMC soon clarified that this was due to the cumulative numbers of 4 days after the private labs released the test results.

However, BMC officials have sent a note to 10 private labs in Maharashtra to stop collecting samples for the test. This decision was taken as these labs do not have enough testing kits, and this concern of unavailability needs to be resolved. Pune-based MyLab is currently supplying the kits, however, they are not able to meet the demand. Other companies are also finding it difficult since they have a global reach.

The state government and municipal officials are trying their best to curb the situation and keeping the same in mind, several localities in Mumbai are already being checked for cases. In a recently released statement, it was said that the BMC has sealed 146 areas in Mumbai out of which 46 areas were from Western Mumbai and 48 each from Central and South Mumbai.

In the wake of the increasing cases of the coronavirus or COVID-19 in Maharashtra, the state government on Tuesday reviewed the ground level-situation and officials have also asked for empty spaces in hotels, buildings to be converted into quarantine centres.

Further, Health Minister Rajesh Tope also mentioned that more than 5000 patients in Maharashtra have been quarantined as they had come in contact with COVID19+ positive patients.
