Sanitary pads vending machine to be set up in Mumbai Police Headquaters

With the increase in the number of women in the police force and taking under consideration their needs, Mrs. Sharmila Barve, former Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve's wife, inaugurated 140 sanitary napkin vending machines.

Whether its the police force or any other job, women have been at par with men in all fields alike. The police force has been increasing the percentage of women employees for the past few years. Compared to other government jobs for women employees, the work women police do is different. Considering this, women employees should not be at a disadvantage during their menstrual cycle.

For this purpose, 140 sanitary napkin vending machines have been set up under the 'Smart Maitrin (friend) Campaign' in all the police stations. The percentage of women in Mumbai Police force is growing year after year. Compared to other government offices, the nature of women working in the Mumbai Police force is different. The government office has eight hours of work, However, the functioning of the police force is twelve hours. The police force functions in two phases of 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and 9:00 pm to 9:00 am. Women working at the police station need to do the night shift as well.

In the last few years, considering the problems faced by women police, a number of steps have been taken to provide special facilities to women in the police force. In each police station, a separate residency has been set up for women. Considering the problems faced by women during their menstrual cycle, 140 smart napkin vending machines have been set up in all the police offices and police stations under the Smart Maitrin Campaign.

The programme was inaugurated by Mrs. Sharmila Barve, wife of former Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve, along with other police staff and their wives.
