18 people from Mankhurd-based children's home test positive for COVID-19

The infection spread among the children when one of the children tested positive on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, post which two more children tested positive on Thursday, August 26, 2021.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the city of Mumbai are on a rise again and this has raised concerns for the civic body. As per reports, over 300 cases have been reported each day, since August 17, 2021, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been making efforts to curb the spread. 

In a recently shared update, the BMC said that a total of 18 people from Mankhurd-based children's home tested positive for COVID-19. The count has increased in the last three days, of which 15 children were reported positive on Friday, August 27, 2021. Patients have been isolated at a ward in Chembur.

The infection spread among the children when one of the children tested positive on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, post which two more children tested positive on Thursday, August 26, 2021. Officials reported the same and the officials conducted the antigen and RT-PCR tests which raised the total count to 18.

COVID-19 infection has been spreading among the children, and over the last few days, cases have increased among citizens below the age of 18. A report regarding the same was published in the Hindustan Times which said that the BMC recently reported two such instances whereby 22 people from an orphanage and boarding school and 14 children from a Thane-based government-run juvenile centre had tested positive for coronavirus.

Experts across the country, over the last few months, have warned about the third COVID wave by stating that the same is likely to affect children below the age of 18. Considering the same, the state government has directed the civic bodies to set up paediatric wards across hospitals and COVID centres in the city to ensure children are given the best treatment, if admitted. Furthermore, healthcare facilities and requirement of oxygen is also being updated for the third wave.

On the other hand, BMC also reported a rise in COVID cases with the delta variant. Citizens have been asked to remain alert and follow COVID protocols at all times by wearing mask, maintaining social distance and using sanitizers regularly. 

Considering the risks, this year too, the government has cancelled public celebrations for Dahi Handi and Ganeshotsav 2021. Citizens have been asked to celebrate the festivals in a simple manner thereby maintaining safety during the pandemic.
