On Wednesday, December 23, Police Chief Parambir Singh gave an in-principal approval for the plan to revamp at least twenty chowkies.

These chowkies happen to be the first point of contact between the people and the police. As per reports, the redevelopment is to happen in 2021. Moreover, the new structures are touted to have proper seating areas for the public, besides separate washrooms and changing rooms for the police. This will lead to increased visibility within the neighbourhood.

The ten finalized chowkies are in the areas of Girgaum Chowpatty, Malabar Hill, Nepean Sea Road, Bandra, Juhu, Worli, Shivaji Park, Haji Ali and Mahim. The other locations are residing in the densely populated areas such as Dharavi, Trombay, RCF etc.

On the other hand, the Mumbai Police has decided to seize vehicles during the night curfew, similar to how it used to during the coronavirus-induced lockdown. According to officials, police personnel will be out on the roads at night in full strength from Tuesday, December 22. Besides, zonal DCPs have also asked to be on the streets in their respective zones at night.

This decision by the Mumbai Police happens to be in full force, which has been imposed by the Maharashtra government till January 5 between 11 pm to 6 am. According to sources, the night curfew has been imposed due to a new strain of coronavirus infections in the UK, Italy and South Africa.
