2010 Coronavirus cases in Mumbai; city has 68 per cent of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra

A report released on April 15, 2020, by Maharashtra state health department stated that the number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai has crossed the 2000-mark. Officials in the update (as of Wednesday) mentioned that a total of 2010 cases were identified in Mumbai, out of which 114 deaths were observed.

Data also suggests that the current count of COVID19 patients in the state of Maharashtra is 2916, out of which 68 per cent of the cases are from the state capital. 187 deaths were recorded and 295 patients were discharged. Besides this, 362 cases have been registered in Pune, 109 in Thane, 68 in Navi Mumbai and 50 in Kalyan-Dombivali.

The report from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation also stated that a total of 3929 samples were screened across 100 labs between April 5 and 14, 2020. Further, 1541 swab samples were collected from suspected cases. Out of the total number of cases in Mumbai, 857 cases were identified from contact tracing and containment zones. 

Based on the guidelines issued by the central government, BMC officials have sanitised 33,636 premises in the city, which includes state government and other premises, BMC premises, home quarantine premises, and places where COVID-19 patients are identified and treated. 

Officials have also asked people with health conditions like Diabetes, Hypertension and others to strictly stay at home, and continue the medication. In case of any symptoms, one should immediately reach out to the officials for assistance and treatment.

PM Narendra Modi, while addressing the citizens via social media, mentioned that the lockdown in Maharashtra has been extended until May 3, 2020. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray also confirmed the same and said that the state government officials are trying their best to tackle the crisis. He also asked the people to strictly follow the norms of social distancing, which would help in fighting coronavirus.
