22 per cent people tested positive for COVID-19 in Navi Mumbai post conducting the Rapid Antigen Tests

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) recently conducted the Rapid Antigen Tests. Out of the 4,180 subjects who were tested, 928 people tested positive. That is 22 per cent of the people testing positive for the COVID-19 till July 24.

The symptomatic cases were referred to for antigen tests after they were identified from door-to-door screening at 42 hotspots in the city. The NMMC launched this rapid testing drive after receiving criticism with regards to not conducting enough tests and contact tracing.

On Monday, July 20, Navi Mumbai recorded 286 fresh cases of coronavirus while two people succumbed to the disease. The total number of coronavirus cases in this area has now crossed over 11,000-mark, with 204 people being in-home quarantine. Out of the total number of cases which were found in Navi Mumbai, 38 were from Belapur, 62 from Vashi, 22 from Turbhe, 31 from Koparkhairane, 43 from Ghansoli, 43 from Airoli and 11 from Digha. The total number of cured cases in Navi Mumbai, therefore, stood at 7,417 earlier this week.

Meanwhile, about 3,950 patients are undergoing treatment for the coronavirus in Navi Mumbai. Apart from these, 22 patients are from Belapur, 42 from Nerul, 18 from Vashi, 6 from Turbhe, 17 from Koparkhaiane, 26 from Ghansoli, 60 from Airoli and 13 from Digha were discharged on Monday. With the surge in the cases of coronavirus, the authorities have decided to follow strict lockdown in containment areas while giving some relaxation in other areas.

On the other hand, Maharashtra on Friday, July 24, recorded 9,615 fresh cases of the coronavirus, propelling the state's COVID-19 tally to 3,57,117. At the moment, there are 1,43,714 active cases in the state. With 5,714 COVID-19 patients getting discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 1,99,967.
