24 per cent of the total coronavirus cases are active in Mumbai

The number of coronavirus cases in the city of Mumbai has been increasing exponentially. Currently, Mumbai has more than one lakh COVID-19 cases, and as of July 18, 24,039 cases were active in the city. Out of these, 16,541 cases were asymptomatic, 6128 cases were symptomatic and 1370 cases were critical.

As per data, 23 per cent of the tests that are conducted in Mumbai have been positive and so far officials have conducted 4,33,227 tests in Mumbai. Data also reveals that 33,306 tests are being conducted per million.

Out of the 1,00,178 cases, ward R-Central (Borivali) has the lowest doubling rate of 28 days, and ward H-East (East side of Bandra, Khar and Santacruz) has the highest doubling rate of 146 days. As of July 18, Mumbai has a doubling rate of 55 days, out of which 16 wards have the doubling rate of more than 50 days. Further, out of the total cases, 70 per cent of patients have been discharged and 6 per cent of cases have died due to the infection.

Observing the increase in the number of cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sealed more than 6,000 buildings in the city and a total of 691 areas in Mumbai have been marked as containment zones (which includes slums and chawls). The call centre set up by the BMC has received around 1,98,567 calls with regards to coronavirus-related queries.

Of the 691 active containment zones, the most number of areas are sealed in Ward M-East (Chembur) with 75 red zones, followed by Ward-L (Kurla) with 74 areas and Ward S (Bhandup) with 69 areas. Further, a total of 6,163 buildings are sealed in Mumbai out of which Ward R-Central (Borivali) has 777 building sealed, Ward K-East (East of Andheri, Vile Parle and Santacruz) has 716 buildings sealed and Ward R-South (Kandivali) has 557 buildings which are sealed. 

What K-East (East of Andheri, Vile Parle and Santacruz) has the most number of patients in the city followed by Ward P-North (Malad) and then Ward G-North (Dadar), with 6590, 6220 to patients and 6001 patients respectively.

Further, the average growth rate for coronavirus cases in the city of Mumbai currently stands at 1.6 per cent. Out of all the wards, R-Central (Borivali) has the highest growth rate at 2.5 per cent followed by Wards D (Grant Road), R-south (Kandivali) and T (Mulund) at 1.9 per cent each.
