Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), on Tuesday, recorded 25 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally of infected people in the area to 376. So far, 11 persons from Mira-Bhayandar have succumbed to the disease.

Among the 25 new cases, 12 are contacts of people who had earlier tested positive for coronavirus whereas 13 are isolated instances. Of the 12 contact positive patients, eight are from one family in Kranti Nagar area of Bhayandar (West). The youngest person to have contracted the virus among the contact cases is a 10-year-old from Salon Gali, Mira Road (East).

On the other hand, the maximum number of cases from the 13 isolated positive cases were reported from the Mira Road area with a 62-year-old man from Sector 2 in Mira Road (East) being the eldest of them.

While 25 new cases were recorded on Tuesday, no fatalities were reported throughout the day in the Mira-Bhayandar region.

Significantly, MBMC's cure and discharge rate continue to remain as high as over 67 per cent with 213 out of 376 patients being discharged after treatment so far. Currently, there are only 134 active cases in the locality.

In order to curb the spread of the infection in the area, MBMC has announced a complete shutdown in the area since April 22. However, the shutdown was recently partially relaxed on May 17, Sunday.

From Monday, MBMC had allowed the opening of grocery, bakery, and essential shops between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. However, the civic body has allowed the home delivery of groceries, milk, fruits, vegetables, mutton, fish, and chicken between 9:00 am and 11:00 pm. Selling of fish has been allowed at a single designated spot in Bhayandar (West) between 5:00 and 9:00 am.
