The number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai have increased rapidly and this has raised concerns for the local administration. Observing the pattern, the civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started imposing strict restrictions thereby asking the people to follow the norms.

Moreover, the buildings are being sealed if several coronavirus patients are found, and this is being conducted as per the directives from the state government. Accordingly, BMC, as per the recently released data, has sealed as many as 305 buildings. Moreover, in the last 6 days, over 13,000 patients have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19) in Mumbai.

Despite the Municipal Corporation's efforts to prevent the spread of corona, the number of positive patients in Mumbai has increased and it is said that a total of 3,062 patients were found on Saturday, March 20, 2021.

Data reveals that this is the first time  such a large number of positive patients have been found in Mumbai after COVID-19 infection was announced in the state. Furthermore, out of the total number of patients found in the state in the last six days, a total of 13,912 are said to be from Mumbai. Therefore, the concern of BMC has increased

The corporation has increased the number of tests to prevent the spread and report states that Mumbai had the highest number of patients on October 7, 2020, the previous year. The number of patients in one day had reached 2848, however, for the first time since then, the figure has gone beyond 3,000.

The municipality is creating a containment zone to curb the growing spread. At the same time, tests are being carried out in malls, cinemas houses and other crowded public places.

As on March 13, 2021, there were 31 containment zones in Mumbai and 220 buildings were sealed. However, on March 18, 2021, there was a big increase in the list as the containment zones reached 34 and 305 buildings have been sealed. Citizens have stepped out of the houses since the lockdown in Mumbai eased and this has also increased the risk of infection.

As a result, the municipality has decided to increase the number of daily tests. Currently, the target is 50,000 tests a day and strict enforcement of rules for coronavirus has been ordered at the mall in view of the congestion.

Officials have observed crowds in the malls and the cinema halls since the last few weeks, and the norms are being flouted. Hence, the BMC has imposed the rules and regulations basis which tests will be conducted at these places through the divisional offices of the municipality.
