In recent developments, more than 35 COVID-19 vaccination centres have been shut down as a result of insufficient vaccine stock in the state.

According to sources, this includes the Sushruta hospital in the Chembur area. Moreover, due to the increase in the cases of coronavirus, there has been a shortage of Remdesivir injections as well. Earlier on April 14, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Chahal stated that the civic body of Mumbai, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), purchased Remdesivir at a higher rate to save lives since there was an acute shortage of the drug in the city, which is currently grappling with the pandemic.

In addition, Chahal added, more than the rate, the BMC’s priority was to secure enough vials for the patients suffering from the coronavirus who would need the life-saving drug in civic hospitals.

On the other hand, earlier on Monday, April 19, Maharashtra recorded 58,924 novel coronavirus cases which propelled the state’s COVID-19 tally to 38,98,262. At present, there are 6,76,520 active cases in Maharashtra. With 52,412 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number recovered soared to 31,59,240.

Meanwhile, 2,40,75,811 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus in labs operational across the state as of now. While 37,43,968 persons are under home quarantine, 27,081 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. Furthermore, the COVID-19 positivity rate, recovery rate and fatality rate in Maharashtra stand at 16.19 per cent, 81.04 per cent and 1.56 per cent respectively.
