361 Passengers From 9 International Flights Quarantined In Mumbai

On Tuesday, December 29, as many as 664 passengers arrived at the Mumbai international airport and 361 of them were quarantined in the city, a civic official said.

Out of the total passengers landed, 254 passengers were allowed to travel to other states, while the remaining passengers were exempted from the compulsory quarantine rule for various reasons such as pregnancy and advanced age.

A total of nine international flights landed in the city during the day, he said.

After a new strain of COVID-19 was found in UK, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)  on Sunday, December 27, amended the earlier Standard Operating Protocol (SOPs) about institutional quarantine of passengers arriving from European countries and the Middle East.

As per the amended rule, travellers will have to stay in institutional quarantine facility for seven days and another seven days in home quarantine. Earlier, 14 days' institutional quarantine was mandatory.

Moreover, on Tuesday, December 29, India recorded six cases of the coronavirus of the mutant strain of COVID-19 which is 70 per cent more transmissible and was first reported in the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) started a special survey of passengers arrived from England. All passengers that have arrived in Navi Mumbai from November 25 to December 23 are being monitored. The civic body has also issued two toll-free numbers that the UK and countries returnee can contact the civic health department round the clock. They also urged citizens to take up voluntary check ups.
