The Government on Maharashtra recently launched the Dial 112 project with an aim to improve the police response time across Urban and Rural areas. As per reports, the officials on Thursday, September 23, have sanctioned the recruitment of 68 posts in the technology-driven Maharashtra Emergency Response System project.
These are expected to be placed at the proposed Nagpur based Primary and Navi Mumbai-based Secondary Contact Centre (PCC and SCC) respectively. Besides this, control rooms have been planned at 45 police commissionerates and district police offices in Maharashtra.
A report regarding this was published in the Free Press Journal which stated that the officials from the concerned department the project will be used and be beneficial to the police during any emergency and will also serve to be a point of contact. Sharing more information from the official, the report said that the request was made in August 2021 for the 68 posts to be sanctioned post which the concerned officials from the government would have to decide and designate the required personnel from their respective forces.

The need for this project was identified after multiple helpline numbers were used across the state, by the citizens, to report crime and instances, which was leading to a considerable delay. Hence, an emergency number can help the citizens to contact the police, when in need. Similar numbers were also given for other rescue departments and services too. However, the launch of Dial 112 is expected to be beneficial across the state.
The report also mentions that the Minister of State for Home and IT, Satej Patil, took to Twitter in July 2021 to emphasise the need of technology-based systems which were helping the officials address queries on a timely basis. He had clarified that all the two and four wheelers vehicles used by the officers include a mobile data terminal and GPS system which were installed to enable them to be available round the clock.
