70 fresh COVID-19 cases in Mira-Bhayandar, toll reaches 1,408

As Maharashtra crosses the one lakh-mark, the number of COVID-19 cases in the state has touched 1,01,141. Meanwhile, the coronavirus cases in the twin city of Mira-Bhayandar have gone up to 1,408 after 70 fresh cases were reported on Friday. 

According to Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), nearly 752 persons have who recovered from the coronavirus while the death toll in the region is 75 as four people died due to COVID-19 on Friday. Moreover, 53 persons were discharged yesterday from various hospital after getting cured.  

According to media reports, of the 70 COVID-19 positive cases, 41 cases were reported from Mira Road while 20 from Bhayander east and nine from the west. The MBMC earlier sent 4,347 swab samples for testing for the deadly virus. Although 2,735 samples tested negative while reports for 204 cases are yet to come. 

In view of the increasing coronavirus cases, the MBMC had announced a complete shutdown in the region from April 22. However, the restrictions were imposed again till May 31 after providing some relaxation. 

Now with Maharashtra being in “Mission Begin Again” phase, relaxations have been provided in the region to allow non-essential shops to reopen as part of the unlocking. However, the shop will have to follow the guidelines issued by the government strictly. 

The number of cases and fatalities in the Mira-Bhayandar region have increased in the past day. The region witnessed the highest spike with 145 cases earlier on Thursday. 

Maharashtra has been the worst-hit state due to the coronavirus outbreak. Since its first case on March 9, the number of COVID-19 cases in the state has crossed the one lakh mark. The death toll in Maharashtra has touched 3,717. In Mumbai alone, the number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 55,451.
