The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been thriving towards making Mumbai a cleaner city. While it tries to put efforts from their side, the municipal corporation has expected the citizens to comply with the regulations. In an attempt of the similar initiative, BMC has penalised 92 pet owners since December 4 for not carrying a poop-scooper with them. So far, the corporation has collected fines amounting to ₹46,000 from them.

In a review meeting on December 4, the BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta had asked the Solid Waste Management (SWM) department officials to take necessary action against the pet owners who let their pets defecate in open on footpaths and roads. As per the officials, Mehta had directed the pet owners to carry a poop-scooper otherwise, pay the penalty of ₹500 for violating the norms.

The most number of fines i.e. 24, were imposed in the H-West ward (Bandra, Khar Road) amounting to ₹12,000. Whereas, in the D ward (Grant Road, Malabar Hill), 21 pet owners including repeat offenders were penalised and fines of ₹12,500 were collected from them.
