We often admire our onscreen heroes and go ‘ga-ga’ over their stunts. But we don’t really know about a lot of ‘real’ life heroes who are doing noble work for the community.

Meet Hassan Rashid Khan. This young man has been saving people from drowning in the water for the last 20 years! He has been helping people who have been ignorant about the risks involved while swimming in the sea.

In 2010, this brave man was awarded by the former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, for his noble work and bravery. But unfortunately, this man doesn’t have a stable job which will help his family survive the daily expenses.

The 36-year-old lives with his wife and son. For the last 20 years, he has been working as a lifeguard for free. He has been working near the Mahim coastline area but has been blatantly ignored by the officials. He applied to work as a lifeguard but he wasn’t really considered for an official job.

He told Mumbai Live about the problems he has had to face in the last few years because of not having a permanent job. His family is facing hurdles because of that. He is tired of knocking on the government’s doors as he is not being acknowledged at all.

If we give the onscreen heroes so much attention and applause, why is this real life hero being ignored? There are a lot of people who have a kind heart and are making a positive contribution to the community. They should be acknowledged by the government and the people.
