On August 15, 2018, India will complete its 72 years of independence. All the citizens regardless of their age, caste, race, religion will hoist the national flag and look up with pride. People also buy small plastic and paper flags but sadly, these flags are often seen lying on the roads. Despite witnessing the national flag lying on the floor, people tend not to carry it up.

While knowingly, unknowingly people step on the symbol of national integrity and fail to realise about the insult they are impending. In order to avoid any such situations every year, an institution named Care Foundation has been working effortlessly through its ‘Rashtradhvaj Sanman Rally’ (National Flag Reverence Rally) initiative since 2012.

The Bandra West-situated institute has been picking up flags laying on the road under its ‘Rashtradhvaj Sanman Rally’ initiative. They collect the flags from the roads and later put it under the soil and sow a plant on it. Every year, the foundation organises the rally on August 15 which is joined by several small children to college students.

In 2012, when we had organised the first rally. At that time, we recovered around 1,200 flags. People respect the flag for two hours on Independence Day. After that, the people do not care or pay attention about where the flag falls or worry about the state of the flag,” said Aniket Bhankal, Care Foundation, President

Initially, the rally was held within the Bandra and Khar localities. The students and children also perform street plays to make the people understand the importance of preserving the integrity of the national flag. The rally begins at 10:00 am in the morning and ends at 6:00 pm in the evening.
