As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are approaching in the next few months, politicians are keeping a check on voters health.

The sitting corporators and aspiring candidates are also holding health camps wherein they are offering pathology tests, free medicines and diagnostics, even free eye checks and spectacles, reports stated. Across Mumbai, nearly a dozen of health camps have already been held, and many more will be taking place.

Corporators have said that due to the pandemic, health awareness has increased because of which residents are turning up at health camps in large numbers. Many corporators have tied up with private hospitals and pathology labs for testing and treatment, whereas a few of them are taking help from BMC-run hospitals.

Meanwhile, it is likely that the BMC elections scheduled to take place in February are likely to be postponed as the civic body is expected to undertake a fresh exercise of remapping its wards from northwest to southeast Mumbai.

It is done in the wake of the Maharashtra cabinet's decision to increase the number of corporators from 227 to 236. All the nine corporators will likely be added to the Mumbai suburbs.

The BMC had recently conducted its first physical meeting after a gap of 20 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
