Ahead of the festive season in Mumbai starting next month, the Mumbai Milk Producers Association (MMPA) has announced a INR 2 per litre hike in the wholesale price of buffalo milk in the city from September 1. The officials of MMPA have given this information.


Information has come to light that this decision was taken in a meeting of the Mumbai Milk Union due to the increase in the price of wet fodder and animal feed. Milk that is sold loose will become expensive in Mumbai from September 1. Buffalo milk will cost INR 2 to 3 per litre in retail. The wholesale price will also increase by Rs. 2 per litre.

A meeting of the Mumbai Milk Association of about 700 milk dairy owners and 50 thousand buffalo owners was held at Jogeshwari on Saturday. In this meeting, it has been decided to increase the price of milk. The decision was taken unanimously in a meeting chaired by MMPA Vice President Ramesh Dubey. However, due to this decision, the prices of all milk-related food items are likely to increase during festivals like Ganeshotsav, Navratri, Diwali etc.


The price of buffalo milk sold by more than 3,000 retailers in the country's commercial capital will be increased from INR 85 per litre to INR 87 per litre and will remain in effect for six months, after which it will be reviewed. With the hike in rates by INR 2/litre or from INR 85/litre to INR 87/litre from September 1, retail rates are likely to increase to INR 90/litre or INR 95/litre, MMPA committee member C.K. Singh said.
