On Wednesday, April 27, Mumbai’s peak electricity demand crossed 3,660 MW, from its usual peak of 3,500 MW in summer, reports stated. Accounts now speculate that the numbers could surge to almost 4,000 MW considering the anticipated rise in temperatures in May.

On the other hand, on Wednesday, Mumbai saw four power cuts that ranged from one at Mumbadevi for 30 minutes owing to a 11KV feeder fault in the morning, to another at Shivaji Park in the afternoon.

The third power cut was reported in Prabhadevi for two hours because of an 11KV feeder fault as a result of cable damage. The fourth power cut was seen in the evening at Byculla.

Based on narratives, power experts are of the opinion that for consumers the rise in consumption coupled with increasing power purchase cost could have an effect on the monthly power bills.

Earlier on Tuesday, April 26, a power outage was reported in Mumbai and its neighboring cities. Many Navi Mumbai and Panvel citizens complained of electricity being cut off overnight on Tuesday

Mumbai generally does not face any mandatory power cuts as part of load shedding, but has faced some issues in the past, including a disruption that lasted up to 18 hours in October 2020.

Considering the scorching summer heat, this has proved to be a major inconvenience to Mumbaikars.
