Mumbaikars are all set to welcome 2019 and restaurants in the island city are also lit up. Rooftop restaurants have donned a new look as well. Adding to the 'end-of-the-year' excitement, the state government has decided to keep the restaurants and bars open all night. 

Meanwhile, Yuva Sena Chief—Youth wing of Shiv Sena—Aditya Thackeray had sought permission from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to keep establishments open the whole night.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjunath Singe told PTI that an order has been issued by the state government's Excise department that will allow restaurants, bars, hotels and pubs in Mumbai to remain open till 1:30 am on January 1.

However, they will be allowed to remain open till 5:00 am if they have prior permission from their local police stations, said Singe. To ensure the safety of people celebrating New Year's Eve, on the night of December 31, over 40,000 police personnel will be deployed on the roads of Mumbai. Along with this, special squads will also be deployed at many places in Mumbai to prevent harassment against women.

Police will be assisted by the State Reserve Police Force and the Home Guard. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) will also be on alert on New Year's eve.
