A massive fire broke out in a house in BDD Chawl in Mumbai, on Monday evening, April 4 injuring two women.

The incident was reported at 4.24 pm at BDD Chawl number 55 near Jambori Maidan in Worli, owing to a leak in an LPG cylinder. Soon, the firefighting engines reached the spot and managed to extinguish fire by 4.42 pm. However, the fire flames were doused in nearly one-and-a-half hours.

Two persons, identified as Sunita Vanjari (47) and Nisha Patakar (43), were admitted in Kasturba Hospital and Nair Hospital respectively.

Sunita Vanjari, 47, is in critical condition with 70 to 80 per cent burns. She has been admitted to the ICU of the civic-run Kasturba Hospital.

The other patient, Nisha Patakar, 43, has been admitted to BYL Nair Hospital. Patakar is suffering from breathlessness, giddiness and chest pain from smoke inhalation. Her condition is now stable, said an officer.

Meanwhile, on the same day, a fire gutted a home in Biloshi village of Wada taluka in Palghar leading to extensive damage to property and household items. Fortunately, no one was injured. Besides, it has come to light that the blaze, which may have started due to a short circuit, was doused in an hour by firefighters.
