The Mumbai Electric Worker’s Union and BEST Kamgaar Kranti Sangh will be carrying out a candle morcha on Wednesday around 6:00 pm, from August Kranti Maidan to Aazad Maidan demanding a 20 per cent bonus prior Diwali
Mumbai Electric Worker’s Union and Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Kamgaar Kranti Sangh will be carrying out a morcha (protest) demanding a bonus for BEST workers, casual labourers and officials. The candle morcha will be carried out on Wednesday around 6:00 pm, from August Kranti Maidan to Aazad Maidan. The union wants the BEST to give 20 per cent bonus prior to Diwali.
One month ago, the union had submitted a proposal to the BEST administration and General Manager and BEST Committee President demanding 20 per cent bonus before Diwali.
Meanwhile, as per the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act (MMC), the BMC should ensure that the losses of BEST are curtailed. However, despite the clause in the act, the BEST administration and the BMC Commissioner violated the rules and recovered the bonus given to workers last year in the form of 10 installments. The union has filed a petition regarding the same in an industrial court.
