After the performance of activists in Elgaar Parishad on January 1, Pune recorded a massive tension between two communities and incidents related to Bhima-Koregaon violence.

The Mahar Community carried out a rally in celebration of the 200th anniversary of Bhima-Koregaon battle where the Mahars along with Britishers defeated the Peshwas. Reacting to the violence, Dalit organisations announced a ‘Bandh’ all across India against the act of violence.

Pune’s Vishrambagh police on Tuesday raided the residences of activists in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon celebration programme. The police have registered a case against the members of Kabir Kalamach for provoking people’s sentiments through their performances.

After the case was registered, Maharashtra police raided the offices - in Pune, Nagpur and Mumbai - of Kabir Kalamanch and Republican Panthers. The raid was carried out at 6:00 in the morning. In Pune, Ramesh Gaichore and Sagar Gorkhe’s residence were raided by the police and in Nagpur, Surendra Gadling’s house was also not spared. The residence of activist Dhire Dhalwe and Harshali Potdar were also searched in Mumbai.
