Blast at Boisar-based textile manufacturing unit kills two and injures five

As per reports, the blast was reported in the morning on Saturday, September 4, 2021. The cause of the blast is not known.

A massive fire was reported in Boisar area, in the morning on Saturday, September 4, 2021, when the boiler section at Jakharia Textiles blasted early in the morning. As per reports, five workers were injured and two were reported dead due to the blast. Injured were rushed to a nearby hospitals in Vasai and Boisar for further treatment.

The cause of the blast is yet unknown and officials confirmed that Vasai's Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) are investigating the matter. The Managing Director (MD), Nitin Keshavji Shah, of the textile report will be questioned regarding the same post which an FIR will be registered, said the officials.

The station officer of Boisar MIDC fire brigade, Manish Sawant, told the Hindustan Times the team reached the spot after it reported at 6am. The fire was doused using three tenders and the cooling off process is underway.

Reports confirmed that textile products like cotton linen, yarn dyeing, blended polyester cotton, viscose fabric, etc. were manufactured by Jakharia Textiles. The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old workers Chottelal Saroj and Mithilesh Rajwansh. An accidental death case has been registered at the Boisar MIDC police station and post-mortem is being planned. 

Sharing more information, the police said that Amit Yadav, Ganesh Patil, Mukesh Yadav, Murli Gautam, and Umesh Ram are being treated at the hospitals as they sustained injuries. 

Meanwhile, an office located on the top floor of a seven-storey in Borivali caught fire in the morning on Saturday, September 4, 2021. While all the residents were safe, one firefighter sustained burn injuries. He was taken to Mumbai's Shatabdi hospital for treatment and was discharged later. Preliminary investigation reported that an electrical short circuit led to the fire in the office which was closed during the morning.
