In order to increase the peoples' safety on Mumbai beaches, the Brihnmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to introduce additional lifeguards on the beaches. The BMC will outsource the lifeguards through a private entity.
Currently, there are 36 lifeguards available on Mumbai beaches. The BMC and Fire Brigade Department now aims to increase the number by 93.

Mumbai Fire Brigade will outsource the additional 81 lifeguards on a contractual basis and accordingly, the department has already issued tenders for the same. The lifeguards will be placed at Mumbai’s Girgaon, Dadar, Juhu, Versova, Aksa-Manori and Gorai beaches for the next three years.
The BMC will be investing ₹10 crores to bring in additional lifeguards which will not only be well trained but will be certified by the state government-approved agencies.
