According to a recent World Health Organisation (WHO) report, Mumbai ranked as the fourth most-polluted mega city in the world. Mumbai also came ahead as the 63rd most polluted city among the 400 cities of the world.

Air pollution has been a persistent problem for metropolitan cities and Mumbai is also one of the cities adversely affected by air contamination. Over the years, the city residents have been breathing unhealthy air which has resulted in several lung diseases whereas difficulty in breathing has become persistent. Despite being a coastal city, the city of dreams is climbing up on the list of polluted cities.

As per a recent World Health Organisation (WHO) report, Mumbai ranked as the fourth most-polluted mega city in the world. Mumbai also came ahead as the 63rd most polluted city among the 400 cities of the world. The experts stated that due to the increasing industrialisation and over-construction, the city has become a place with more pollutants trapped in the air.

An environmentalist said that pollution in the city has been increasing and due to construction, the sea breeze that diluted the pollutants, has been weakening. Due to which, the pollution instead of being diluted, is getting trapped and blocked which has resulted in the increase.

Meanwhile, a doctor said that the heat and dust have caused an increase of particulate matter in the environment which has led to an increase in diseases amongst the children and adults due to dust and toxic gases. He added that all these have eventually led to respiratory problems.
