After two separate incidents of food poisoning in Mumbai, the BMC has urged citizens to avoid eating street food, especially during summer. An advisory was issued by the health department on Wednesday after a youth died after eating chicken shawarma recently. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) removed 15 illegal hawkers from their shop areas in Mankhurd.


19-year-old Prathamesh Bhokse died on Tuesday morning after eating chicken shawarma from a local shop in Maharashtra Nagar area of Mankhurd, while five others were admitted to KEM Hospital due to food poisoning. In one such incident, at least 12 people were hospitalised for suspected food poisoning after eating chicken shawarma on the streets of Goregaon East on April 26 and 27.

Meanwhile, M East Ward took action against street hawkers in Maharashtra Nagar in Mankhurd on Wednesday. The goods and other materials of the vegetable sellers and hawkers were seized by the BMC team. However, the local resident Vishal Sangare has complained that such action is only evasive and no strict action is taken against the hawkers.
