According to the latest reports, over half of Maharashtra's new COVID-19 cases have been recorded from Mumbai. In light of this, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked civic officials to augment daily testing, and contact tracing as well as keep an eye on their concerned administrative wards.
Based on accounts, presently, the daily testing is under 10,000 samples in Mumbai. The BMC has reportedly asked all the 24 ward officers to be on alert. Additional Municipal Commissioner (Health), Suresh Kakani, was quoted in a narrative by the Indian Express elaborating on how they have asked officials to increase the testing, surveillance, contact tracing, home isolation protocols and booster doses to those eligible.

Additionally, in the past 24 hours, the number of coronavirus tests done was 9,514. On Wednesday, April 20, Maharashtra registered 162 new COVID-19 cases of which Mumbai accounted for 98.
This is a considerable surge in daily cases since Monday when a mere 34 cases were registered. Currently, Mumbai has 415 active cases.
At the same time, the BMC has asked citizens to not panic and said that a surge in cases was expected considering the relaxation in COVID-19 curbs. In light of this, they have urged all to adhere to COVID appropriate behaviour and wear masks as a precautionary measure.
