On Thursday, March 31, Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey took to Twitter to state that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stopped fining without masks. Therefore, starting Friday, April 1, citizens will not be penalised for not wearing face masks in public spaces in Mumbai.

Based on accounts, the BMC elaborated on how its clean up marshals will not fine anyone INR 200 for not wearing face masks from Friday. After the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, the civic authority had made it compulsory for wearing face masks in public areas.

Pandey's tweet elucidated how it was reported by many citizens about face masks. Therefore, he had brought it to the attention of the BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal. The police commissioner added that Chahal immediately worked on it and he thanked him for his prompt action.

Apart from this, the BMC took to Twitter to remark, "This #BattleAgainstTheVirus that spanned for more than 2 years, took a lot from us. Yet people from all walks of life joined us in this battle. The collective efforts of many have enabled us to tweet this today - all Covid-19 restrictions will be lifted starting tomorrow!"

The state government also released a detailed order advising all to continue wearing face masks and adhering social distancing protocols.

The Maharashtra government on Thursday revoked all the coronavirus restrictions, thus, they withdrew the Disaster Management and Epidemic Act for COVID-19 management in the state.

Moreover, public health minister Rajesh Tope reportedly uttered that wearing masks is now voluntary. However, the public has been urged to use masks while they are in crowded or public areas.

Additionally, there is no longer any requirement for being fully vaccinated to travel in public transport as well as in public places like malls, theatres.
