Amid the ongoing BEST workers’ hunger strike, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) employees have also threatened to go on a strike in order to press their pending demands. The BMC workers had earlier said that they will carry out a protest at Azad Maidan on August 28.

According to a report published in The Indian Express, the civic body workers informed that their demands regarding biometric attendance system, seventh pay commission and group insurance policy have not been met.

The coordination committee of all unions has warned to go on a strike if their demands aren’t met including the removal of the biometric system along with reforming the agreement of the Seventh Pay Panel and more.

Due to the technical fault in the biometric system, the salaries of several BMC workers have been deducted while many employees have received ‘zero’ salary in their bank accounts. The workers informed that the issue has been raised with the BMC administration. However, no specific action has been taken yet.
