Keeping the wage hike in mind, employees of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) have decided to go on an indefinite hunger strike starting today. Under the leadership of Shashank Rao, the Sanyukta Kamagar Kruti Samiti have informed the officials that the indefinite strike would continue if their demands are not met. Members of the union had met the BEST administration but no concrete decision was taken.

Talking about the same, Rao said “Despite meeting the administration and talking to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief, there has been no concrete reply from either of them. We have started our hunger strike and will continue it till the management comes out with a solution. If the BEST administration fails to provide a solution then an indefinite strike will be called.”

Adding to the same, Mumbai Mayor, told Hindustan Times, “I met the municipal commissioner Praveen Pardeshi, general manager Surendra Bagde, chairman Anil Patankar, and union leader Shashank Rao this evening. Shiv Sena’s stand is that all the demands of the employees should be met. Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray will take a review meeting in the next two days and will decide the future course of action.”

The administration and union hope that a firm decision regarding the same will be taken soon, as the employees seek an assurance with regards to resolving the issue post the meetings. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is also looking into the matter.
