The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has formed an eight-member committee to oversee the controversial Malabar Hill reservoir rebuilding project. The information was made public in a recent notice from the water supply department.

The committee's primary task is to determine the feasibility of repairing the existing reservoir without constructing a replacement tank or disrupting the water supply. They will also explore the possibility of phased reconstruction without interrupting public access to water.

It comprises four IIT Bombay experts—Professors Ashok Goyal, R S Jangid, Jothi Prakash, and Dasaka Murthy—along with local architect Rahul Kadri, two local representatives and civil engineers, Dr. Vasudev Nori and A Seth, and Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Special Engineering), C H Kandalkar.

It has also set up an email address, mhriit.suggestion@gmail.com, for the public to submit their suggestions. This email address will be published in the newspaper.

The committee will have approximately 15 days from the publication date of the email address to assess the submitted suggestions based on their merits. The committee will also request that IIT Bombay propose any other feasible solutions. From the committee, Professors Goyal and Jangid have previously provided their expertise to the BMC for this project.

Following the evaluation period, the committee will spend a month reviewing and providing feedback on any viable ideas submitted by locals, elected officials, and experts.
